Dignity helps by providing emergency accommodation and essential services.
Fifty people who experienced homelessness during 2018 and who stayed with the charity “Dignity” share some of their journey. These stories are coupled with black and white photos of hands, each as unique as the stories that accompany them.
Dignity helps people who are homeless by providing emergency crisis accommodation and food for struggling families and individuals, and we operate numerous houses all over NSW.
Delicious meals are provided to all our guests thanks to our fabulous team of volunteer cooks, Oz Harvest and Two Good.
We work closely with businesses, organisations and communities to raise awareness about homelessness and how we can work together to find solutions.
Our guests often arrive with nothing. We provide carefully selected quality clothing packs.
We have made a great start, but our work has only just begun.
We provide safe refuges for homeless and victims of domestic violence.
Our crisis accommodation helps people preserve their dignity while they get back on their feet.
We provide healthy, nutritious and delicious meals for our guests.
We receive NSW government funding on a night-by-night basis that covers some of our costs, but we rely heavily on private and corporate donations to achieve greater impact.
Three passionate women with backgrounds in social services, education and psychology decided that enough was enough and that something had to be done to end homelessness in Australia. There is a long way to go but we have made a great start.
Every night in Australia over 105,237 people are homeless according to the 2011 census. This equated to 1 in 200 Australians, and represents an increase of 17% from the 2006 census. With hidden homelessness this figure is likely to be much higher.
People experiencing homelessness are not just statistics but real people and can come from all walks of life. Someone you know could be homeless right now.
There are many and varied reasons people become homeless and it’s often a temporary crisis situation where they need help getting back on their feet.
If we can help people at this early stage many people can avoid sleeping on the streets or their cars at all.
